At the Jamboree Album Release Party Description:
Boulder singer-songwriter Marilyn Walker never really grew up. So it makes perfect sense that her debut album, At the Jamboree, is for kids of all ages - a children’s album veiled within adult themes. With the sounds of Caribbean steel drums, Hawaiian ukulele, and an oompah style polka groove joining the expected instrumentation of guitar, banjo, bass, dobro, piano, and drums, the album (like its maker) is full of magic and mischief. Whether crooning like Sinatra or howling like a wolf, Marilyn spreads joy and wisdom with songs about the donkeys, mycelium, cephalopods, and angels in our midst. The title track, At the Jamboree, is big dance party of a song about a magical night of animals celebrating together.

Marilyn will be joined at this album release party by Joyful Ruckus, an all-women’s ukulele band that is currently rocking stages across Colorado – from Swallow Hill’s Daniels Hall to the Castle Rock Lei Festival. Led by Patty Jackson, this joyous group of pickers and strummers create magical moments of harmony with old and new crowd favorites. Not to mention their colorful clothing and party attitude that multiple the joy of their performance.

This double header, all ages show promises to be a joyful celebration of the power of music and community. All proceeds from the show will benefit TGTHR To End Youth Homelessness (TGTHR.org), a Boulder-based 501c3 organization that provides effective programs to prevent homelessness in youth, before permanent homelessness takes hold. The show is sponsored and organized by Connected by Music (“Musicians impacting the lives of women, children, and vulnerable youth,” a 501c3), and is made possible by a generous grant from the Boulder Arts Commission, a part of the Boulder City Council. Let’s come together and make a joyful noise!
